The Vikings Attack the Dwarven SteadFast and Pay for it in Blood.

In an alternate netherworld dimension, the book of the dead ~ the necronomicon, has thrust Vikings, Centaurs, Dwarves and other creatures of horrid evil into battle as they relentlessly pursue strongholds of middle-earth. Shazam!!!

<- or next time you are at sea, a squid of unusually large size will emerge from the deep to claim your limbs and leave your rotting torso floating in the abyss of salt water doom.

Ahhhh, a sight for a weary small people, the Dwarven SteadFast Stronghold of Damascus! Hidden deep in these rocks is the Ale of Allister, the mead with which gives power of a 100 men to all those who drink!

The Clan Brynjolf Vikings have made landing at the beach below! With quick spears they spare no mercy in slaughtering all who oppose their tyranny! Aaarrgghhh!

The Vikings quickly make for the entrance to the SteadFast and up the stairs. Arrows rain down around them from Dwarven archers. Fwoosh! Zwap! Zing!

The Dwarves in the staircase are no match for the vicious advancing Vikings.

The Hero Viking ~ 'Sven the Great' forces open the gate knocking back the gatekeeper. Wait! What does he smell? That's right! It's beef jerky! Aaaaaagggghhhhh!

<-- click to hear the Viking battle scream of perpetual evil!

Realizing that they are being overrun, Gimli the Horrible uses the 'instrument of calling' to summon the horrible Kraken! Vaaaaaoooooommmm!

And incase you are wondering, the instrument of calling is hand-carved from petrified walrus genitalia.

The Kraken emerges from the deep with little warning and immediately clasps onto the Serpentine (the Viking War Ship), which is floating off-shore.

The Serpentine is violently rocked to the side and begins to take on water. Sheer panic ensues as Viking warriors are tossed overboard.

Repulsed by the stench of death, the crew attempt to repel the creature with spears and arrows. Nothing seems to work. Are they doomed to die an icy cold death at the bottom of the sea?

The creature lashes at the ship with its tentacles of doom, grabbing warriors and throwing them overboard. Why oh why is this creature of the deep so enraged? Global warming my friends, global warming.

The mighty Viking vessel starts to slip under the surface. Could this be the end of the reign of the sea faring Serpentine?!

As the Viking warriors succumb to their dastardly fate, they pray for the sweet release of death to come quickly at the fangs of the Kraken.

<-- click to hear what it sounds like as you slide down the throat-hole of a Kraken alive!

The Centaur army, dwindling in numbers due to relentless attacks by the Vikings have joined forces with the Dwarfs. A small herd of Centaur watch the carnage from the observation point.

Cross-bow arrows zing through the air like bullets. screams of pain and pleasure erupt from all areas of the battleground.

The Dwarves prepare to fire off the Ballista. This fine machine is called "Zanzabar's Valliant Might". A few hits from this weapon of destruction should sink the Serpentine faster!

A Centaur warrior-horseman barks out commands to the Ballista crew. His voice neigh with excitement: "Listen to me my short-sword brothers of might and mead! We must fire one of these giant arrows into the side of the Viking Floating Beast of Doom!"..."For I fear your bearded woman shall not be safe!"

The top of the SteadFast Stronghold is accessed via the dwarven elevation device. 3 slaves drive the mechanism.

This brave Viking warrior ponders if he will ever taste the sweet lips of Helga the mead wench again...

The Centaurs scream down strategic battleplans to the chaos below. The tide of this battle looks to be in our favour!

Dwarven archers scale down the rock and fire off volleys of arrows onto the advancing Viking party.

Here is a final shot of the diorama table. I used no baseplates in the making of this diorama - but a word to the wise ~ if you use no baseplates, be sure to check that the table is flat! Apparently this one is not.

The Kraken was sculpted mostly from black plates of various sizes. I have never sculpted anything in lego before and found it to be quite a challenge.

This is the diorama that I was planning on taking to NWBC06 but work got in the way and alas I could not. It did require some finishing touches this past week, and there was so much more I wanted to do with this moc, but I figure it's time to let it go!

As I have virtually never built castle themed lego before, your feedback is greatly appreciated! Cheers! ~ Paul.
